Infant Care - How to Do It Right

If you have just had a baby, proper care is essential. Newborns are very demanding and it can be overwhelming if you are not well prepared. They require constant feeding and regular diaper changes to keep them comfortable. Most new parents become sleep deprived and this can lead to anxiety and depression. There are some simple tips you can use to make sure your infant is well taken care of.

The most important thing to think about when you bring your baby home is feeding. You can either breastfeed your baby or use a bottle. If you decide to breastfeed, you should know that it takes patience. You should breastfeed your baby after every 3 hours to create a routine. You can ask your doctor to recommend the best way to hold the baby when they are breastfeeding. If you prefer to use a bottle, make sure you hold the infant while they feed. This will allow the two of you to bond and it prevents the infant from taking in too much milk.

Bathing is another essential aspect when it comes to infant care. When you are giving your infant a bath, you should make sure there are no open windows. It is important to collect all the items you need before you start the bathing process because it is dangerous to leave an infant unattended. If you need to get an item, make sure you carry your baby with you. The water temperature should not be too cold or too hot. Test the water with your wrist or elbow to make sure it is just right. Avoid using soap on the infant's face and dry the baby immediately after the bath. The umbilical cord should be kept dry until it heals completely. When putting on the infant's diaper, make sure it is below the umbilical cord to avoid contamination.
